"Gandhi, King, Day & Merton:
Learning From Our Peacemaking Ancestors"
BY JOHN DEAR
Join Fr. John Dear for a great week of study, reflection, and inspiration as we ponder the four great peacemakers of our time--Gandhi, King Day and Merton--at the spectacular Ghost Ranch retreat center, near Abiquiu, New Mexico (see: www.ghostranch.org).
On Monday evening , August 2nd, 2010, we’ll gather at Ghost Ranch for an introduction to the course and introduce each other. Then we’ll have classes each morning, breaks for rest and walks in the afternoon, and discussion sessions and film clips in the evening.
On Tuesday, August 3rd, we’ll spend the day studying the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, with film clippings in the evening. On Wednesday, we’ll study the life and example of Martin Luther King, Jr. On Thursday, Dorothy Day and on Friday, Thomas Merton. Friday will mark the 65th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima, so we’ll pay special attention to Merton’s writings on peace and nuclear weapons.
We’ll conclude on Saturday, Aug. 7th with lessons from the peacemakers and reflections for our own journey to peace. Come for a week of study, reflection, relaxation, prayer, discussion, journaling, and renewal, that together we can carry on our own peacemaking journeys.
